  1. I dont like you. J/K ROFL @ the link that was nice.
  2. Here is one that should really blow you away then... The United States is ranked #18 in the "most democratic nations of the world" with a score of 8.22 out of 10.0... Norway is ranked #2 with a 9.6 and Sweden is ranked #1 with a 9.88. Here is a link to the PDF with the nations listings from 2008 (the last time it was updated). Even better, the list of happiest nations in the world... the US did not rank in the top ten again. They only list the top ten in the article here. I could go on forever with how much we in the US dont pay attention to the rest of the world. The honest point is that we in the US think were the greatest and were too arrogant to think that anyone else might ever possibly have a good idea for governing or anything else for that matter. Wise people listen more than speak you know.
  3. Yeah, Hong Kong is not really part of a communist state. It was a British (for sake of simplicity of explanation) colony. When the city was given to the PRC in '97 the government saw the flow of cash (Hong Kong is one of the largest cities in the world) and instead of making them a communist economy and government city gave them political freedom to some degree so that the flow of commerce would continue as uninterrupted as possible as the economy of the city would make an impact on the world. Macau is the only other city in the PRC (and was a Portuguese colony across the bay of Hong Kong until '99) that has their own political freedom from the communist government and it is not as popular or as wealthy (though it is more wealthy by the GDP than most US cities). Think of the two cities more as territories of the PRC similar to Puerto Rico or the United States Virgin Islands. Shanghai (the largest city in the world) is not free but is a major economic power and: However Shanghai is not a free economy and is under communist control. But because of its size and the fact that the PRC sees Shanghai as a trophy in some ways, it is given more freedoms than most other cities so that western tourists and media can utilize the services and the PRC can remind them at every possible turn that it is a communist ruled economy and government style. Links to information about the cities along with Shanghai as a lot of people think it is a free city and it is not unfortunately. Hong Kong - Macau Shanghai
  4. Apple is trying to recreate the buzz from the ipod days and the iphone days by creating a new neet gadget that they think people want. It will sell in the first six months like hotcakes because of the apple fans out there and (honestly) because the device is flashy and nifty and lets face it people like to show off their flashy new stuff to say they are better than their neighbor. But the long run the device will fail because it appears to be nothing more than an e-reader on a low dosage of sterroids. Personally I am tired of the days where I would have a cell, pager, and PDA on my belt. I really do not cherish the idea of luggin my work laptop around at 4.5lbs and a flashy e-reader. And that is where it is, another device that people will ultimately replace with items that are already around or will be around at a much cheaper price. If you want technology to watch, google is the place to start. They move slower than most other tech companies but their products appear to be vastly superior. And I am not just talking about the search engine or Chrome. Just my 2 cents. I have been wrong before.
  5. http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Why_does_the_pre...s_to_sign_a_law "President Johnson used a rumored 75 pens to sign the Civil Rights act in 1964." I am not sure if I should laugh, cry, be angry or just wonder who has them now. I'll bet one of hose pawn shops on the history channel would go nuts over a Johnson Civil Rights pen.
  6. And this would be the OTHER reason that it is closing.
  7. ... I think my head just exploded. I will never look at another mango in the same light again.
  8. But see, heres the problem... What exactly makes a structure 50 feet tall by 200 feet long made out of scrap metal and painted white with some lights at its base worth $3 million dollars? I mean, lets all just grab a bucket of weather resistant paint, a brush and some ladders and have a beer party. Get some greenpeace nut to pay for new energy efficient outdoor lights and some multi-millionare dude or dudette to pay for a few years of electricity to light the dang thing and "p00f" all done. 3 mil seems a bit excessive IMHO. Maybe a few hundred thousand and some volunteers instead of a group of contractors who are going to make sure they have paid break times & lunches, not to mention the "OMG WE SAVED THE HOLLYWOOD SIGHN" party at the end.
  9. I pay a close eye to national politics for many reasons. I am also a huge history and social sciences buff (I love learning things about other cultures and geography). These things may not seem like they are very closely related but amazingly they are extremely close and the media is the one things that ties them together. Additionally, I have worked for a media company (a large news paper) and have come to the conclusion that all media is biased in some manner especially in the United States. But I have to say, bashing a minor for standing up for what he believes in is so incredibly wrong its not even on the list of things I would ever think the media would do. Fox really needs a P.R. representative to go through their editorial staff prior to making stupid statements like this. Even the right wing is likely to look at this as "I cant believe they were bashing this kid for standing up." Okay, Ill leave my news and political soap box before I get off on a tangent...
  10. Jelous... Vork is the coolest. Hes so uhm... odd. My favorite character is Zaboo or maybe Clara not sure. Zaboo is just the ultimate gamer that is really out to get a piece and Clara is much like almost every older housewife I know its not even funny.
