gnume
I think it is time to replace my aging system. I first got it back in 2004 and upgraded the motherboard and CPU back in 2007. I want to be able to play games such as Battlefield 3, Star Wars The Old Republic, and Rift. This is what I am looking at so far (and let me know if I am forgetting anything) CPU/MB Combo: ASUS P8P67 Pro B3 Intel P67 Motherboard and Intel Core i7-2600K 3.40 GHz Quad-Core Unlocked Bundle $506 Power Supply: Cooler Master RS800-80GAD3-US Silent Pro Gold 800W Power Supply - ATX, Modular, 800 Watt, SLI, CrossFire X, 80+ Gold Certified, 120mm Ultra Silent Fan $170 Video Card: Zotac ZT-50201-10P GeForce GTX 570 Video Card - 1280MB GDDR5, PCI-Express 2.0, Dual DVI, Mini HDMI, SLI, DirectX 11 $290 Case: Cooler Master SGC-1000-KWN1 Storm Enforcer ATX Mid Tower Case - ATX, Micro ATX, 4x Ext 5.25", 1x Ext 3.5", 6x Int 3.5", 1x 200mm Red LED Fan, 1x 120mm Fan, 2x USB 3.0 Ports, 2x USB 2.0 Ports, Black $80 Blu-Ray: Sony BD-5300S-0B 12X Internal Blu-Ray Writer $100 Hard Drive: Seagate ST32000641AS Barracuda XT Hard Drive - 2TB, 7200 RPM, SATA 6G, 64MB Cache $140 Memory: Corsair CMT8GX3M2A1866C9 Dominator GT Desktop Memory Kit - 8GB (2x 4GB), PC3-14900, DDR3-1866MHz, 9-10-9-27 CAS Latency, 240-pin DIMM, 1.5V, Intel XMP Ready $175 Cooling: Corsair CWCH50-1 Hydro H50 CPU Liquid Cooler - 120mm Fan, Copper Cold Plate, Aluminum Radiator, LGA775, LGA1366, LGA1156, AM2/AM3 $75 Operating System: Win 7 $100 Total Cost w/o shipping or tax: $1636 I didn't include the thermal paste for the CPU so I know I need to add that as well. Anything else I am missing? I am not worried about a Sound Card because I end up using headphones anyway so I figure why spend the money when the on-board will be fine. I also don't plan on going SLI anytime soon but may consider it in the future.

yonv
you should add in a solid start drive, all you need is for it to be large enough for the boot and the page file, there are a few windows hacks to put your programs and documented on the standard drive. with an ssd you will see a performance boost at boot and with any program that pages allot. (ps.. maybe make sure you have room on the ssd for your favorite games)

I installed the OS and MS Office to it and will install everything else to the other drive. The computer boots in under a minute now. It is also super quiet. It is amazing so far as compared to my 2004 Alienware behemoth. Pics coming soon!

yonv
if you had not already found out, the link is how to set the default user profile location in the reg. linky just do those settings then make a new user and your default profile will be on the none ssd drive to save space. I did change where it puts Documents, Pictures, Music, and Downloads...so those automatically go to the 2TB Drive.
