  1. Joined the guild Bada Bing www.badaguild.com If you wish to join, just post in the Joining forum and that you know Gnume
  2. I made a toon, Gnume, on Kaas City Server. PvE, East Coast.
  3. Currently playing Battlefield 3 under the name Major_Gnume. I am signed up and waiting for SWTOR to release. I got the beta invite but decided I wanted to just wait till release...want to experience it all at once and feel like I am not wasting my time in a beta just to have things change and have to start all over at release anyway! When it does release, I will not be playing on a PvP server.
  4. I am in-game as Major_Gnume. Origin ID is Gnume2 so feel free to add me. I will likely be joining up with 6th Force Recon clan and playing on their server. Played with some of them in the past and as part of another clan.
  5. I hope to pick-up my copy of BF3 tomorrow...I will post here what server(s) I will likely frequent. I am hoping to hook-up with an old clan I was in during BF2 because I think they will be getting their own server...always nice to have friends that can control the server settings hehe.
  6. I did change where it puts Documents, Pictures, Music, and Downloads...so those automatically go to the 2TB Drive.
  7. Yeah, he posted about it on FB...so he is ok if that is your concern
  8. I have completed the build and it it up and operational!! I ended up adding a 120GB SSD and man, it sure makes a difference! I installed the OS and MS Office to it and will install everything else to the other drive. The computer boots in under a minute now. It is also super quiet. It is amazing so far as compared to my 2004 Alienware behemoth. Pics coming soon!
  9. All the parts shipped...except the Power Supply and Motherboard lol...so can't much with the stuff that does arrive
  10. Will do! Looks like everything will arrive no later than the 28th so hopefully shortly thereafter!
  11. I think it is time to replace my aging system. I first got it back in 2004 and upgraded the motherboard and CPU back in 2007. I want to be able to play games such as Battlefield 3, Star Wars The Old Republic, and Rift. This is what I am looking at so far (and let me know if I am forgetting anything) CPU/MB Combo: ASUS P8P67 Pro B3 Intel P67 Motherboard and Intel Core i7-2600K 3.40 GHz Quad-Core Unlocked Bundle $506 Power Supply: Cooler Master RS800-80GAD3-US Silent Pro Gold 800W Power Supply - ATX, Modular, 800 Watt, SLI, CrossFire X, 80+ Gold Certified, 120mm Ultra Silent Fan $170 Video Card: Zotac ZT-50201-10P GeForce GTX 570 Video Card - 1280MB GDDR5, PCI-Express 2.0, Dual DVI, Mini HDMI, SLI, DirectX 11 $290 Case: Cooler Master SGC-1000-KWN1 Storm Enforcer ATX Mid Tower Case - ATX, Micro ATX, 4x Ext 5.25", 1x Ext 3.5", 6x Int 3.5", 1x 200mm Red LED Fan, 1x 120mm Fan, 2x USB 3.0 Ports, 2x USB 2.0 Ports, Black $80 Blu-Ray: Sony BD-5300S-0B 12X Internal Blu-Ray Writer $100 Hard Drive: Seagate ST32000641AS Barracuda XT Hard Drive - 2TB, 7200 RPM, SATA 6G, 64MB Cache $140 Memory: Corsair CMT8GX3M2A1866C9 Dominator GT Desktop Memory Kit - 8GB (2x 4GB), PC3-14900, DDR3-1866MHz, 9-10-9-27 CAS Latency, 240-pin DIMM, 1.5V, Intel XMP Ready $175 Cooling: Corsair CWCH50-1 Hydro H50 CPU Liquid Cooler - 120mm Fan, Copper Cold Plate, Aluminum Radiator, LGA775, LGA1366, LGA1156, AM2/AM3 $75 Operating System: Win 7 $100 Total Cost w/o shipping or tax: $1636 I didn't include the thermal paste for the CPU so I know I need to add that as well. Anything else I am missing? I am not worried about a Sound Card because I end up using headphones anyway so I figure why spend the money when the on-board will be fine. I also don't plan on going SLI anytime soon but may consider it in the future.
  12. Forgot to upload the "Before" pic :p It is there now. We redid the pinestraw in the flower beds...pulled out the old, cleaned up bed, put in new. Trimmed all the bushes and plants and pruned the trees. Transplanted a rose bush from the house out to the "island" and added 2 Sago Palms to the front. Pressure washed the house and sidewalk...and added the garden. Planted the garden Sunday. Tomatoes (3 varieties), Cucumbers, Green Bell Peppers, Yellow Bell, and Red Bell, Sweet Banana Peppers, Broccoli, Squash, Cilantro, and Dill (have another Herb garden with Oregeno, Basil, and Parsley already).
  13. Had a busy weekend doing some yardwork! Check out some pics to see the results. I am sooo sunburned! You would think a dude with no hair would learn to wear a hat :p Just have to plant the vegetables and herbs in my new garden area and we are done!!!
  14. Well, FireFox is back to allowing it for me now
  15. Yeah, using IE to view it. Sucks that people take things so far over a game!

  17. Last night was not a fun night for me! Here is a video of the tornado that hit in Tuscaloosa, Al which is just 90 miles from where I live. Luckily, we just had some wind and a little rain at my house but about 30 miles away there was damage and death :(
  18. Mentioned this on Vent the other day when we were waiting for the server to come back up. Anyone that plays MMOs will likely find this one pretty funny Sn4tchbuckl3r's Second Chance Then, I recommend watching You suck at Photoshop. Another pretty cool series and you might learn something at the same time! I just have to assume everyone is already aware of The Guild and perhaps The Legend of Neil.
  19. Thanks for the links. I just wish I were half as good at debating/arguing as you! Are you a lawyer or politician by chance lol! Well, I will give it another round, but I feel a bit out of your league here...not in what I believe but how best to express it or "prove" it. As far as Net Neutrality goes…a lot of the links are pretty much the same as the one I provided where they are against the recent ruling passed by the FCC. I remember when that came about and NO ONE was satisfied with that ruling. The Republicans on the committee were against it because they say it was not within the purview of the FCC to make such a ruling, that is Congress' duty and that the FCC lacks the legal mandate to enforce the rules. Heck, some of the groups advocating net neutrality were also against the FCC ruling. It looks like to me that everyone wants the same end-state…that of a free, and open internet…but the points of contention are in how to achieve that end-state. The Republicans want to leave it open and let the market determine how best to accomplish it whereas the Democrats want to enact legislation to regulate it. The Republican stance is that regulation may hamper innovation and the spread of broadband. I think a new stance coming out for the Republicans is going to be to amend the antitrust laws to address net neutrality. Regarding Public Education. The GOP platform is here and then click over to education. I agree with that platform and I like the idea of a voucher system. Yes, I do send my daughter to a private school. I also still pay taxes that go to support the public education system. It would be nice if I could actually use some of those taxes I pay to help pay for some of my child's education expense. I am paying the tax anyway. Why can't I have a say in how it is spent? Would you actually want to just send your money to a broker and let HIM/HER decide how to invest it with no input from you and no choice in how it is allocated? I think you will find that President Obama also realizes there are issues with Public Schools and some say even he is assaulting teachers and teacher unions, and wanting more money to go to charter schools with his Race to the Top program. That program is worrying some as well. Glad we agree on the tax issues at least And finally, I submit my proof here as to why I don't completly trust the Obama Administration and how they are handling the economy (Proof 1, Proof 2, Proof 3)
  20. What exactly is leading you to the presumption that Republicans are obviously against Public Schools and Net Neutrality? I believe the Republicans are FOR net Neutrality … http://arstechnica.c...-rules-kill.ars I can sort of see where you might be coming from with the recent cuts against unions in various states but I don't think that was intended as an attack on the public school system itself or an attack on teachers as a profession. It is more of trying to reform a system(Unions), especially unions that have an impact on a State's budget. Unions were needed in the early days of the industrial revolution but while the industry has changed and the labor system within the US has changed and evolved (because of Unions), I don't think unions have really evolved. I don't know if we really need unions any longer but I am not sure that doing away with them entirely is the right path to take. Unions shouldn't be bullies and force states and companies to bend to their will. I think they do everything they can to maintain their power and to maintain their profitability first and look out for their members last. I don't have the answer but I do think some sort of Union Reform is needed. And for what it's worth, when I took my current job I was required to join a union as a condition of employment. I saw a news segment on 60Minutes last night about how there are literally billions of dollars that companies have trapped off-shore because the US Tax rate of 35% is too high for them. So, they do a paperwork shuffle and transfer certain assets to countries overseas to avoid paying that 35% tax rate. Of course, they can't bring any of that money back to the US because then it would be taxed at that 35% rate. So they have to use it to build factories, offices, etc.overseas. If the US would simply lower that rate to 20%, then a lot of those companies would no longer have such a huge incentive to keep that money off-shore and that would increase tax revenue for the US. A case of less equals more. What we need is a reform of the Tax system. We need to have incentives for people and corporations to pay their taxes not look for ways to avoid paying their taxes (or at least a rate that doesn't cause corporations to shift money out of the country). Obviously this is not simple and economists and people with way more education than I have are looking at this. I mean, in my mind, a simple flat tax across the board should seem fair but I guess there are reasons why it is not so simple. It will never be "Fair". The wealthy aren't going to be affected by say a 20% Tax rate nearly as much as someone at the low income level where every penny counts. A 20% tax rate for someone making$10,000 a year versus someone making $1,000,000,000 may look fair from a number's view but certainly not from a realistic view.
  21. Very nice! I gather it is a GT version given the air intake on the hood :p Going to be a fast car for sure!!
  22. I can see how you are feeling your profession is under-fire Fred. As I mentioned previously, I think it is a product of what our society has bred. We have such high expectations of teachers yet we don't offer the proper incentives to encourage such expectations. Teachers feel beat-down or abandoned by the system. They just go through the motions to survive and/or keep their jobs. I think we have gotten into a classic Catch-22 situation with our public school system. We have teachers and teacher unions calling for higher pay and demanding better benefits yet the quality of education level for the children seems to be declining. Parents and governments are getting frustrated and are seeking alternative ways to improve things. Some parents resort to homeschooling, others to sending kids to private schools. Governments are trying to cut back on pay and benefits because they see it as wasteful, especially in these times of economic hardship. Teachers are the ones getting the bad deal. Home schoolers don't want their tax dollars supporting a public education system they aren't using. I can relate…when I was single, I remember having to pay a huge amount of tax for education. I didn't even have kids. I thought…I should be able to call up the school and have them send someone out to cut my grass at least!! But in our society, it is all for the betterment of our society. I think people have gotten selfish and tend to forget about "the greater good". I don't know…people don't want other people to teach their kids something different than what they believe. I don't want the government coming in and telling me that they have to teach my kid why evolution is the only truth possible or that Pluto is not a real planet! I want the government to ensure that teachers are professional and they meet proficiency standards. I want the government to ensure that Reading, Writing, Arithmetic, Science, and History are taught. I don't want the government telling me that prayer in school is wrong…that reciting the Pledge of Allegiance is wrong. I did all those things when I attended public school. I like to think I turned out well. I don't recall the education system being poor or kids being so rebellious. Now that we don't do a lot of things thanks to political correctness, look at the state of things currently. Hard to believe that removing the teaching of certain things has not had this negative impact on our society! Perhaps if we kept reciting that Pledge of Allegiance our society would be kinder to each other and more willing to work for the greater good instead of being so selfish? I mean, something as simple as that pledge reminded us every day that we were part of a society. Now, don't misunderstand, I don't think our problems would be solved by reciting the pledge, I was just using that as an example to make a point ;)
  23. It's a sweeping generalization. Not all teachers are bad...my sister is a high school teacher in the public school system. I believe she has been doing it for over 20 years already. So I do hear a lot about what goes on. I can understand your viewpoint of wanting to be honest with your students and to share the nitty-gritty. The problem (in my opinion) is when you express your opinion and your opinion differs from the parent's of your students. Kids are naive and tend to believe what certain people in "authority" tell them as opposed to what their parent's tell them. Heck, if what a teacher tells them is different than what a parent tells them, my limited experience tells me they will believe the teacher instead of the parent (well tweens and teens anyway). For example, in 5th grade, my daughter had what I consider to be a very liberal teacher (public school). It was her first year teaching (but she was an older woman, not a 20 something fresh out of college). I don't recall the details anymore but the gist of what happened was the teacher was not fond of the President at the time (Bush) and was also not fond of something else happening at the time. Let's see, this would have been around 2007 and the presidential election campaigns were well underway. She had her class write a letter to a government official to explain why they were opposed to something (dang you would think I would remember the details cause I was so angry at the time). It wasn't a letter to explain what the child thought, it was an assignment to explain what the teacher thought. The letters were never mailed or anything and the teacher apologized and said she was just trying to work on a writing assignment. But my point is that sharing an opinion is walking a thin line. It can cause conflict at home because these young kids are very impressionable. Do I want my daughter to think for herself and come to her own opinions? Certainly I do...but I don't think a child is capable of such things until their early 20's. Their brains are still maturing and they are still learning how to think about consequences and risk. I have read studies that say a human brain does not mature until the mid-20s or so and they are incapable of thinking about risk vs reward or about the consequences of their actions (i.e., they can't think of the future and differing possibilities). They live "in the moment". I seriously think that our Public School teachers need to be paid a LOT more than what they are paid. Along with that, I think they should be highly trained professionals that are held to high standards and have to maintain those standards with continuing education. I would go so far as to propose that for pay increases or promotions, that a teacher should be required to pass some sort of proficiency exam to demonstrate their proficiency. I don't think that testing their students is an accurate reflection on their teaching ability because sometimes you just get kids that do not want to learn...no matter how good the teacher is or how much time they spend with the student. Now, I am not saying that current teachers are not highly trained or that they are not professional...and I know that every teacher is also required to maintain some level of currency. I just think there are a lot of teachers in the public system who have been beat-down or simply don't care. I mean, you get what you pay for right? If we aren't willing to pay a high and competitive salary, then we really can't expect to keep such teachers. I think something is inherently wrong with our society when we pay so little for professions like teacher, firemen, police, and so on. Public Service jobs should be high status jobs...high paid jobs...why on earth do we idolize actors, athletes, and singers (and just some rich debutantes too) yet these people who dedicate their lives to teach US, to serve US, and to protect US...we see them as a "right". Dang right there should be people serving me! I can understand your frustration and your desire to share with your students...to empower them to think outside the box and to actually form their own thoughts and opinions. As a parent, we expect you to teach our kids to do just that. To give them the tools they need to be able to do that. The problem is that if you mix in your own opinions, your own thoughts, then it goes beyond teaching and becomes a form of preaching. Preaching is fine when I agree with what is being preached. I have issues when what is being preached is opposed to what I believe and what I want my child to believe. Just my two cents on the discussion Fred...not intended as criticism of you personally because I have no knowledge of you as a teacher and would not make such a judgement.
  24. Before you purchase a new card...you also need to check that your power supply can meet the requirements. When you start moving into some of these later cards, they require a lot of power and if your system just has a 400w power supply, that may not be sufficient. Another thing you need to know is how much room you have in the computer. I upgraded to an ATI 5870 last year and it BARELY fit. It is a honking monster of a card. It took a lot of work for me to get it in the case and I have a full tower case!
