I do not understand why these individuals think that were so evil. I believe I get up every day and try to promote a balanced, educated student that takes the time to think about the issues. Do I have bias in my classroom, YES, because I would rather be honest with my student then lie or take a cookie cutter approach. Students want to hear about the gritty details no matter how good or bad they are. However, I never once try to shoot down a student who has a differing opinion, because I believe in the discussion, and my students know that I say that they can write a dissenting opinion of my views anytime for credit. I encourage this!
Look home school is great and dandy but it limits individuals development on certain levels. It creates not social interaction skills and conflict and coping mechanisms methods that you need in a modern society. On top of that, home schooling can limit the ability to have your mind challenged by ideas that make you question your beliefs on all things, Religion, Morality, and Society. Shielding yourself and your child from the reality that the world is complex, makes your student less ineffective at coping with the real world. Public schools are not perfect either. To many places have to big of classes and not enough resources to succeed, but public education provided a valuable community experience to benefit ALL OF THE COMMUNITY. As John Dewey said "Education is a social process. Education is growth. Education is, not a preparation for life; education is life itself." I cannot stress this enough as a democratic society, because we need a strong public education system for all individuals, because; lets be serious Rep. Paul and Bachmann, Who is gonna teach all the inner city kids? do you really think a lot of my parents of my students are going to home school there kids when there barely surviving as is? I really struggle with the argument that they are making.
